INFOBIOMED NoE Activity work plan • Activity code and title:WP 4.3 Ethics and Confidentiality Issues (Month 1 - 24) • Responsible partner: Custodix NV • Activity objectives: • Clearly, three tasks can be distinguished from the DOW: • Analysis of social and individual risks associated with intended data integration; • Analysis of privacy and confidentiality protection procedures; • Strategies and tools for reconciling privacy and availability of research information. • Expected results: • The DOW does not specify any deliverables for WP 4.3 • We suggest some milestones for our activity • Month 6: “Report on privacy violation risks associated with introduction of BMI” • If needed, milestones can be defined at 12/18/24 months • Relationships with other activities: • Clearly linked to WP6: Pilot Applications

INFOBIOMED NoE Activity Objectives (suggestions) • TASK 1:“Analysis of social and individual risks associated with intended data integration” • Short report on risks associated with introduction of BMI, containing: • Risk analysis illustrated with published cases of abuse; • Privacy impact of disclosed information: comparison between Medical and Biomedical data; • Comparison between codes of conduct regarding treatment of classical medical data and biomedical data.

INFOBIOMED NoE Activity Objectives (suggestions) • TASK 2 & 3: “Analysis of privacy and confidentiality protection procedures”“Strategies and tools for reconciling privacy and availability of researchinformation” • Privacy Enhancing Technologies Work Plan (month 1-24): • Analysis of Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) available for use in Medical and Biomedical practice; • Definition of needs for BMI studies which impact PETs (Analysis of to be combined data; type of data; longitudinal studies; data formats; …) • 3. Development of Privacy Enhanced Solutions for BMI(Determining shortcomings of PETs for BMI integration, research for possible new PETs, PET modifications, answering new needs, …); • Definition of best practices and guidelines for PET usage. • Possible GRID specific topics (under “Development of Privacy Enhanced Solutions for BMI”): • Feasibility study for the integration of PET technology with GRID Middleware;(WS-Privacy, EPAL) • Research for standardization and automation of Privacy Policy Enforcing of heterogeneous data sources;
