  5. Featured Artist Cedric Wells A natural ability to draw and paint started very early in Cedric’s life. While growing up in the small town of Itta Bena, MS, Cedric found fine art as a vehicle for expressing thoughts and feelings on paper/canvas. From his travels around the world, Cedric has gained an appreciation of all types of cultural artwork and understands that true beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Cedric's artwork is inspired from his past experiences, thoughts, feelings, and visions that come to him often during meditation and prayer. His art encompasses various art mediums ranging from acrylic to color pencils, pastels to ink, and oil to charcoal. With the support of family and friends, Cedric’s journey now has him in the Atlanta Metro area to make a difference in lives and to provide art for the eyes and mind. Cedric’s art has been showcased at a number of venue locations around the Atlanta and Washington D.C. areas, as well as events in Virginia Beach and Indianapolis.   8. Featured Artist Tim Hinton Artist Tim Hinton was born in Chicago, IL and spent most of his childhood in Orlando, Florida. Self-taught, he started drawing at a very early age. Following high school, Hinton enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. For being wounded in action, he received two Purple Hearts. After being honorably discharged, he was employed as an illustrator with the Naval Ship Engineering Center, where he served for several years. Since 1973 Tim Hinton has been professionally recognized nationwide. His works have been exhibited extensively including: the Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Anacostia Museum, Kennedy Center, US Naval Museum (permanent collection), Frederick Douglas Home, Howard University, University of Maryland, Pentagon, Naval Annex (permanent collection), The Eisenhower Executive Office Building, Bethune-Cookman College, New York International Art Expo, Décor Expo (Atlanta, GA), the Art Expo (New York City) and the McKenna Museum of African-American Art in New Orleans (permanent collection). Tim Hinton designed the official poster for the signing of the Martin Luther King Holiday Legislation in 1983. This and other historical art prints by Mr. Hinton have been displayed at many national monuments in the Washington DC area. During the last presidential campaign, Mr. Hinton completed three portraits of President Barack Obama. He also designed two posters from the images. One of these is featured in the book Hope, a Collection of Obama Posters and Prints. In addition to painting, Mr. Hinton periodically teaches watercolor classes, and does architectural renderings and medical illustrations. He was the illustrator for a children's book by Albert Whitman Publishing Company and for an international book on newborn health by Save the Children. His works have been used in several publications including: Architectural Digest, Washingtonian, Regardie's Magazine, Florida Business Southwest, Southwest Art, American Indian Art, and Prince George's Suite Magazine. Featured Artist Acquaetta Williams Acquaetta Williams is a glassblower/sculptor whose work has evolved from her vision of women and African Images through glass into sculpture that now includes wood and metal in her latest series of Street Musicians. Internationally and nationally educated, Ms. Williams has studied under Harvey Littleton at the University of Wisconsin and Dale Chihuly in master classes at Pilchuk in Seattle, Washington. She received an Arts International Travel Grant that included travels through Benin in West Africa to study subjects for her work and collect materials for use in her art. National shows have included Uncommon Beauty in Common Objects: The Legacy of African-American Craft Art that included stops across the U.S. in San Diego, Dallas, Atlanta and the American Craft Museum in New York as well as the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery in Washington. From this show, Ms. Williams had a piece acquired by the American Craft Museum (now the Museum of Arts & Design) that was exhibited as part of the 40-year Retrospective of the Museum. In 1993, First lady Hillary Clinton added a commissioned Christmas tree ornament "She Is Safeguarding the Peace" to the permanent collection of the White House. The artist is proud of her inclusion in A Woman's View: Equality, Development and Peace in 1995 at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Acquaetta Williams has lectured across the U.S. and was the artist-in-residence at the New York Experimental Glass Workshop in 1993. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Glass Art Society and was a founding member of Glass Axis in Columbus, Ohio. She was also an Associate Member of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ibaden in Nigeria. Backdrop: “Penny Man” Medium: Mixed Media

  14. Featured Artist Ernie Benton Earnest "Ernie" Benton, Jr. is a contemporary artist who loves listening to music. In particular, he loves listening to jazz as he paints. A native of Chicago, Ernie feels he has been blessed in many ways: by his early and continuing interest in art, by a wonderful mother who supported and encouraged him in whatever he did, and today, by a wife who works in the background to help his art. Besides living in Chicago, Ernie also lived in the East near the Washington, DC area. He was quite active in the arts there, but fortune had him relocate to Texas in early 2002. He and his wife now live in north Fort Worth. Ernie is self-taught, having started drawing when very young. He has created numerous acrylic paintings and also enjoys working in pastels. His strong, colorful work is sometimes realistic and sometimes abstracted. He has competed in and won many art competitions, awards, prizes, and has been juried into many shows and festivals. He says of his creative process, "I am inspired by passion, beauty, and the abstracts and intangibles of music, thought, form and figure. I love to create paintings to share my visions with the world so that just for a moment the viewer becomes a part of my story. My hope is that all who view my work will have a mood-changing experience that takes them on a short journey to peace, beauty, well-being, and serenity." Ernie believes that art is essential to the human experience. "A basic understanding and appreciation of the arts serves to broaden character and deepen the connections with those in our social circles" (A Passion for Jazz! TM 2007). He likes to use art as an opportunity to inform, educate, and ignite the interest of art lovers and students alike. His paintings are created to depict the sounds, flavor, and vibrations of life and I hope that in some small way larger opportunities are generated for communication and understanding.
