  2. Enrollment In Fall 2012:a total enrollment of 1,410 undergraduate students • 35% students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds 28% female students in college (one of the best in country)

  3. Fall 2012 – Incoming UG Numbers

  4. Review strategy • Much deeper involvement/closer collaboration with SU’s Office of Admissions in review of applications for Fall 2012. Intentional strategy to improve quality of first-year class. • Resulted in slightly smaller/higher quality first-year class • Extra attention to high school math/science preparation • Learned a great deal through the process; resulting in enhancements to overall review, including looking at ACT Math sub-scores in application review

Electrical, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering Mechanical & Aerospace JP Morgan Chase Internship Program • 23 LCS students selected as interns, involving technology, operations, and finance **B.S. Systems & Information Science • Hands-on/application oriented computing major.  • Developed in response to need in the market place for computing professionals with skills in the hands-on development of large scale software systems, meeting technical, business and consumer needs, and working in a multi-disciplinary setting. Flight Simulator Fidelity MOTUS 622i • Can be programmed to simulate the flight abilities of planes designed by aerospace students • Ability to simulate different weather patterns • Currently used by seniors, but plans are in place to Introduce the simulator to first- Industrial Assessment Center – DOE funded

  8. ECS 101 • College’s “Gateway” course for new students • 3-credit, introductory course for new students • Includes lecture-style group meeting for all first-year students (weekly) • Discipline-specific sections, lead by department faculty, meet twice a week

Smith Learning Community • Women in Science & Engineering • STAR Program • Student Societies and Organizations • SummerStart • Each year, the college spends more than $500,000 in support of PRIDE programs

Moving Forward • Continued close collaboration with Admissions • Participate in review of applications • Strong high school record, particularly in math/science • 4 years of math; 4 years high school science • SATs – pay close attention to SAT Math • ACT – pay close attention to ACT sub scores • Continue to strive for improved quality/profile of first-year and transfer students, including diversity • Focus on transfer students (reach out to students in schools in which we have articulation agreements) • Focus on female students • LCS will host 2012 NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing event • Focus on EECS – Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems & Information Science
