  1. Luke 2:10-11 “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great Joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, He is Christ the Lord.”

  2. Christmas a big deal? • The Gift of Hope • The Gift of Peace • The Gift of Joy

  3. Defining Question: Have I opened the gifts of God’slove through Christ this year???

  4. Text: Luke 2:4-7 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.

  5. Luke 2:7b-10 She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

  6. Luke 2:11-14 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

  7. Luke 2:15-18 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

  8. Luke 2:19-20 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen which were just as they had been told

  9. The Gift of HOPE …. Heaven is still willing to pour out Promise into earth’s most unlikely places and people.

  10. Definition of Hope …. An expectation or belief in the fulfillment of something desired, a belief that things will get better. Christian hope is securely based upon the words and actions of God.

  11. This Christmas unwrap the in Christ the gift of Hope: “You are included… there is hope”. All of the promises of God are yours because Christ is the “Yes and Amen of God!”

  12. The Gift of Christmas is Peace Luke 2:8-10And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid … 14  “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

  13. Unwrapping this gift of peace? Total well-being, prosperity, and security associated with God’s presence among his people. • The state of the individual internally • The relationship of man to man • The relationship of God and man • The cessation of warfare…

  14. This Gift comes in a person The “Prince of Peace” Isaiah 9:4-7 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. 5  Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire. 6  For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  15. The Gift is Joy Mary’s Joy - imagine her dancing around in circles like a little girl giddy with Joy and fearless. Luke 1:46-55, Mary’s Song

  16. The Gift of Joy … The Shepherd’s Joy… Luke 2:20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

  17. Conclusion: What will you do with His Gifts? A gift is of little value unless the recipient unwraps that gift in their life.
