This project examines the transformative influence of bicycles in Chicago during the 1890s, highlighting their role in reshaping urban life. It explores the social, economic, political, and cultural factors that contributed to the rise of cycling among both working-class and elite citizens. By analyzing the context leading up to this change, the short-term impacts of cycling on transportation and leisure, and the significance of these developments, we affirm the importance of remembering this innovation in the history of urban America.
