  6. Achievement OFSTED REPORT FEB 2013 - KS1 Attainment‘Standards at Key Stage 1 are above average in reading, writing and mathematics.’ What does that look like for our school?

  7. Achievement OFSTED REPORT FEB 2013 - KS2 Attainment‘Standards in Key Stage 2 are uneven. Pupils’ attainment in English improved last year to be above other schools nationally, although attainment in mathematics remained at a similar level to other schools.’ This statement is INCORRECT. What is the true picture for our school?

  8. Progress OFSTED REPORT FEB 2013 - Progress‘Achievement requires improvement because, although pupils’ progress has improved, it is not yet consistently good across the school.’ What does that look like for our school? Performance Tables link - http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/

  9. Quality of teaching Headteacher / Phase Leader observations (Spring 13): • 13 lessons observed of which… • 9 were ‘good’ • 4 were ‘outstanding’ • The Headteacher’s observation judgements were validated by the Lead Inspector, but the school’s evidence base was not used.

  10. Quality of teaching The strongest teaching observed across school: • Pace • High expectations • Challenge for all • High levels of differentiation • Literacy skills across the curriculum • Positive relationships by all • Positive behaviour • Marking and feedback

  11. Quality of teaching What the report says… • There is too much variability across school • Work is not at the right level for pupils • Teachers do not check regularly on learning • Marking policy is clear but needed for maths • Opportunities to apply skills are limited • Occasions where work for SEN pupils is too difficult We do not agree with this judgement!

  12. Behaviour and safety • Attitudes to learning are positive across school • Strong, positive behaviour management • Safeguarding is robust • Emotional Literacy, SEAL, Code of Conduct strong • Residentials in October – strength of school • Parents and pupils positive about behaviour • Pupils aware of e-safety and cyber-dangers • Attendance is above average

  13. Leadership and management • Feedback from Inspectors on Day 2: • The performance management system has been • totally redesigned and underperformance is tackled • effectively • English and writing across the curriculum is strong • Strengths in SEAL, PSHE and the whole child • Pupil sense of morality and fairness

  14. Leadership and management • Feedback from Inspectors on Day 2: • Safeguarding is robust • Middle Leaders are empowered and enabled • The change in culture in school can clearly be seen • Pupils are starting to make better progress • High expectations for everyone comes from the top • Clear direction and this is right for the school

  15. Leadership and management • What the report says… • Teaching and pupil achievement have not improved • enough • Assessment information is not always accurate • The headteacher has focused on developing • relationships in school and the community • Limited maths skills in Key Stage 2

  16. Leadership and management • What the report says… • Governors believe progress to be more rapid than it • is because data is not always accurate • Actions taken have not ensured that teaching and • achievement are good • Pupils doing less well do not always receive extra • help • We totally disagree with the report!

  17. Overall Effectiveness • What the report says… • Achievement – Requires Improvement • Quality of teaching – Requires Improvement • Behaviour and safety – Good • Leadership and management – Requires Improvement • Therefore: • Overall effectiveness – Requires Improvement
