  1. Hitler and The Final Solution • Hitler believed Aryans superior people • Many were his enemies • Gypsies, Freemasons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jews, homosexuals, mentally deficient, political opponents

  2. The Nuremburg Laws • The Law for the protection of German Blood and Honor • Prohibited marriage and extra-marital intercourse between Jews and “Aryans”

  3. The Reich Citizenship Law • Stripped Jews of their German citizenship and drew a distinction between Reich citizens and “nationals” • The Jews would become the scapegoat for Germany’s failures

  4. Anti-Jewish Legislation 1937-1939 • No govt. contracts to Jews • “Aryan” doctors could only treat “Aryan” patients • Jews had to wear the yellow Star of David as well as have a big “J” on their passport

  5. Kristallnacht • November 9, 1938 • “Night of Broken Glass” • 100 Jews killed; 30,000 arrested • Many Jews decide to flee- other countries refused to take the refugees

  7. Jewish Ghettoes • Miserable conditions • Neighborhood sealed off with barbed wire and stone walls • Factories were built next to the ghetto- Jews forced to work for German industry
