  1. Demystifying Multiculturalism SE 1321 KalpanaIyengar By Adrian Garza Ovalle

  2. Reflection In the essay written by Linda Chavez, she was able to give several different topics about multiculturalism that have been going on for a long time and still going. Some things the author talks about is how multiculturalism is advancing but is still a big issue to accommodate the different cultures, not because of the culture or ethnicity but because of the different educations those different cultures have. I really do NOT agree with the author in that specific point because people from all over the world are starting to get very good educations and if people from the world have been

  3. capacitated to do a certain job in some country they can certainly do it in another one. • One example of this that I find it stupid is that doctors who have graduated from Mexico are not able work as doctors in the U.S. • Doctors have to go through a series of tests and different thing in order to be able to work as doctors and to me it is completely wrong because humans are the same in every place there is no reason why they cannot do their job in US if they are able to do it in Mexico.

  4. Something that I learned from this essay was that the US tries to dilute every immigrant into their culture. What I mean by these is that immigrants end up assimilating the American culture. Hispanics are a clear example of these, because by the third generation in the US, Hispanics speak only English and are closer to American culture in every measure. I completely agree with this but I am also completely against it, people from other countries living in the US should maintain their own traditions and be proud of were they come from.

  5. Finally the author also mentions a subtle form of new racism were she talks about certain facial expressions and how white students take over the class and speak past of colored students. In my opinion this is true, I think many international students can sometimes feel left out in a classroom but I also believe in some cases it might be the students fault because of a lack of confidence. If you are confident about yourself nobody will be able to exclude you in a classroom with this kind of racism which is much more peaceful than past racism.

  6. In my opinion immigrants should apply either separation or integration of the new culture they are part of. You should certainly not apply deculturation nor assimilation. You can either become an integral part of the new culture while maintaining your culture or if you don’t feel comfortable with the new culture you could keep your own culture and stay independent of the new culture.
