  2. Preservation Districts • 21 overlay districts- each regulated by either the Commission or the neghborhoods which they protect • 6 historic and • 15 conservation

  3. Historic Districts • Six in total • Follow the Secretary of the interior’s standards for historic interventions • Each district has its own design guidelines and specific architectural features that are maintained such as awnings and sinage in the Braodway District

  4. Any pre-existing transoms should be left intact according to Nashville’s standards

  5. Neighborhood conservation distric • 15 overlay districts, much like the historic overlay districts • Design reviews are implemented with neighborhood set guidelines • Locally designated and administered by MHZC • Permits are necessary for building new structures, additions, demolition, and relocations

Metro Historic Commission “Municipal historic preservation agency working to document history, save and reuse buildings, and make the public more aware of the necessity and advantages of preservation in Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee. Created in 1966, the commission consists of fifteen citizens appointed by the mayor” nashville.gov

Metro Historic Zoning Commission • “The Metropolitan Historic Zoning Commission (MHZC) is an architectural review board which reviews applications for work on properties that are within a Historic Overlay. Its nine volunteer members, appointed by the mayor, include representatives from zoning districts, the Metropolitan Planning Commission, the Metropolitan Historical Commission; architect(s), and other citizens of Davidson County.” nashville.gov
