  5. What is Photoshop, and what can it be used for?

  6. Photoshop is… • Photo editing software from Adobe • Designed to be used alone or with other Adobe products (PageMaker, InDesign, GoLive) • Used by students and professionals to improve the quality of photos and add artistic elements

  7. What can high school students do with Photoshop?

  8. Clean photos for publication • Add effects to photography assignments • Theme development • Cover, dividers, end sheets • Graphics • Artistic elements

  11. Ideas from Ads You can look in magazines to find some great effect ideas and recreate them in your publication

  12. The Apple iPod ads have been extremely successful because of their unique look. You can recreate this look for some elements in your publication using Photoshop.

  18. Photoshop Techniques The following are some techniques you can use for your publication. They can be found in the handout.

  19. The Vector Mask  This effect works well with landscapes.  It is very stunning with vivid colors  A great effect for yearbook covers or dividers.

  20. Two Tone • This effect works great on head shots and profile pictures • It is also neat with landscapes • This is an opportunity to really bring color into a publication, and its great for spot color pages

  21. The Scrapbook • This is can be a timely and difficult procedure, but the work pays off • This effect can be used for almost any photo • It looks good with a “Scrapbook” theme

  22. The Coloring Book Look • This effect works well with clear, in focus pictures that have nice lines and clear distinction between the subject and background • Try to avoid busy pictures that have a lot of things to look at

  23. And Remember… Just because you can doesn’t mean you should!
