Understanding Quadrilaterals: Types and Properties Explained

A quadrilateral is a two-dimensional shape with four straight sides. It includes various subtypes such as squares, trapezoids, rhombuses, and parallelograms. Each possesses distinct properties: squares have equal sides and right angles (90°); trapezoids feature one pair of parallel sides; rhombuses have opposite sides that are parallel and congruent angles; and parallelograms boast equal opposite sides and angles. This guide provides an overview of the characteristics that define these essential geometric shapes.

  1. Square Asquare has equal sides and every angle is a right angle (90°)

  2. Quadrilateral • Quadrilateral just means "four sides" (quad means four, lateral means side). • Any four-sided shape is a Quadrilateral. • But the sides have to be straight, and it has to be2-dimensional.

  3. Trapezoid • Opposite side are parallel.

  4. Rhombus • Opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles are congruent. The diagonals are perpendicular.

  5. Parallelogram Aparallelogram's opposite sides are parallel and equal in length. Also opposite angles are equal (anthe same, and angles "b" are the same)gles"a" are
