  2. The Severity Of The Problem • In the words of Paul • Prompting the apostle to beg - 1 Cor1:10 • Appealing to the authority of Christ - 1 Cor 1:10

  3. The Severity Of The Problem • In the words of Paul • For the contention division creates - 1 Cor 1:11 • For the impression such division gives - 1 Cor 1:12-13

  4. The Severity Of The Problem • In the words of Paul • Such division is indicative of carnality and spiritual immaturity - cf. 1 Cor 3:1-4 • Paul certainly took the problem of religious division seriously!

  5. The Severity Of The Problem • In the words and deeds of Jesus • Prayed for unity among those who would believe in Him - Jn. 17:20-21

  6. The Severity Of The Problem • In the words and deeds of Jesus • This was for two reasons “that the world may know that You send Me , and have loved them as You have loved Me” - Jn 17:23 “…that the world may believe that You sent Me.” – Jn 17:21

  8. The Severity Of The Problem • In the words and deeds of Jesus • He also died to bring about unity between Jew and Gentile - Eph 2:13-16 Jesus prayed and died for unity…He certainly took religious division seriously

  9. How can we who profess to be Christians today take "The Problem Of Religious Division" lightly? If we appreciate the concern of both Jesus and Paul, what can we do about it?

  10. The Solution To The Problem • Speak the same thing • So the apostle enjoins in our text - 1 Cor1:10 • The goal is more likely if we heed the words of Peter - 1 Pet 4:11

  11. The Solution To The Problem • Have the same mind • Again the apostle so enjoins in our text - 1 Cor 1:10

  12. The Solution To The Problem • Have the same mind • The "same mind" we should have is the "mind of Christ" - Phil 2:1-5

  13. The Solution To The Problem • Have the same mind • As we develop the mind of Christ, the more likely we will be of one mind

  14. The Solution To The Problem • Have the same judgment • As stressed in our text - 1 Cor 1:10

  15. The Solution To The Problem • Have the same judgment • Much religious division is the result of different standards of authority

  16. Where different conclusions are drawn, someone, somehow, is not submitting to the mind of Christ as revealed through His apostles!
