  1. The Technology Policies We Need Now and Why By: Sharon Patton Technology Director

Objective • Faculty will: • Understand the district’s policies concerning the care of technological resources and rules governing software installation, downloading of products, reasons for filtering, printing restrictions and bringing in outside equipment. • Develop alternative plans for interruption in network services.

  3. Care of Equipment • Responsibility • If it’s in your classroom, you are responsible! • If you are in the lab, you are responsible! • Cleaning • Annually (outside). • Notification • Contact the Tech department immediately when something is broken/not functioning properly.

  4. Software Installation • District Programs • Tech Department Installs • Personal Programs • Require approval • Tech Department Installs • Consequences • Administration will address illegal software installation.

  5. Downloading • Flashplayer, Shockwave, Media Player • A network folder will be available to allow individuals to install these programs. • Instructions for install will be available in the network folder • All Other Programs • Require tech department approval

  6. Filtering • Topics/Areas Filtered • Decided by tech director/superintendent • Sites Added to Allowed • Submitted for approval • Final decision by tech director and superintendent

  7. Printing • Toner Allowance • One cartridge per year • Submit approval for additional cartridge • Personal Printing • Cost of 10¢ per page (black & white) • Cost of 25¢ per page (color)

  8. Outside Equipment • Laptops • Cannot be put on the network • Submit for approval • Digital Cameras • Submit for approval

  9. Interruption in Network Services • Planned Network Outages • Email – minimum of 3 days notice • Unplanned Network Outages • Always have alternative plans

  10. Narrative • Audience: Faculty • Reason • I chose this audience because it seems like it is the group that seems to think that district resources are at their disposal and that the rules do not apply to them. I have been a technology director for 4 years and I must constantly repeat my reasons why we have policies. I thought this would be a great tool to get the information out to my faculty. Hopefully after this presentation they will clearly understand the policies of the district.
