  2. Purpose Of Lesson Part 5 To teach students the basic internal computer system components(hard parts) and their functions. To teach students the different types of storage medias used with computers and their sizes.

  3. WE WILL DISCUSSED • MICROPROCESSOR CHIP AND ITS COOLING – IT IS IMPORTANT!!!! • LAPTOPS – • DOCKING STATIONS • EXPRESS CARD/CARDBUSS • WIRELESS 3 TYPES • RF • BLUETOOTH • INFRARED

  4. Mounted Chip • Chips are mounted on a heat sink and the chips terminals are connected with gold wire to the gold terminals.

  7. Cooling is Critical • A Radiator and fan are installed on top of the chip to pull the heat away! • Cooling is CRITICAL!!!! • Or the chip will melt down/burn up!!!

  8. Liquid Cooling Systems • Use Antifreeze, a radiator, a pump, and a fan just like a car engine!

  10. AC Cooling Systems • AC System just like an Air Conditioner, Refrigerator, or Freezer

  11. Oil Bath Cooling Systems • The entire computer is placed in an oil bath!!!

  13. LAPTOP • LAPTOPS ARE JUST LIKE DESKTOP, BUT ARE SMALLER, LESS CAPABLE, AND US LESS POWER.

  14. LAPTOP • LAPTOPS ARE LIKE A FERRARI THAT HAS BEEN DETUNED TO RUN LIKE A FORD TAURUS. SO, IT’S BATTERY LIFE LASTS, AND IT RUNS COOLER. • IF YOU DID THAT WHAT KIND OF GAS MILEAGE DO YOU THINK THE FERRARI WOULD GET?

  15. LAPTOP COOLING • LAPTOPS ARE MADE TO RUN COOLER, BUT THEY STILL GET HOT! • MADE WITH FANS TO BLOW AIR UNDER LAPTOP WHILE IN USE.

  16. DOCKING STATIONS • LAPTOPS PLUG INTO THEM AND THE EXTEND THE CAPABILITIES OF THE LAPTOP SO YOU CAN USE THEM MORE LIKE A DESKTOP

  17. DOCKS • BIGGER SCREENS • MORE SCREENS • ADDITIONAL DRIVES • FULL SIZE MOUSE & KEYBOARD • PRINTERS • ETC.

  18. PC CARD • LAPTOPS USUALLY HAVE ONE OR TWO SLOTS • LET YOU PLUG EXTRA STUFF INTO THEM • CAN ALSO BE USED WITH DESKTOPS THAT ARE CAPABLE OF TAKING THEM

  20. Mobile Internet Card for Laptop • IT IS BASICALLY A MOBILE PHONE THAT IS DEDICATED TO INTERNET ACCESS FOR A COMPUTER

  21. PALM PILOT • IT IS WAS A SIMPLE COMPUTER THAT COULD SYNC WITH YOUR COMPUTER AND WAS ALSO A PHONE

  22. Blackberry, I Phone, Etc.

  23. Blackberry, I Phone, Etc. • BASICALLY SMALL COMPUTERS THAT ALSO ARE PHONES, CAMERAS, MP3 PLAYERS, GPS, AND THEY HAVE WIRELESS AND/OR MOBILE INTERNET ACCESS.

  24. Wireless Is The Future • Wireless Devices and Connections are the wave of the future.

  25. Wireless Mouse and Key Board • Even More Items are To Come in the future. • HAS A RANGE OF AROUND “6 FEET”

  26. INFRARED • LIGHT OUTSIDE OF YOUR VISION. • MANY ANIMALS CAN SEE • INFRARED DEVICES HAVE TO POINT AT EACH OTHER TO COMMUNICATE • CANNOT GO THROUGH SOLID THINGS LIKE WALLS!!!
