Prepositions • A preposition is a word that relates a noun or pronoun that appears with it to another word in the sentence • These sentences connect phrases together to help them make sense • For example: • Manny hid behind the dumpster. • In this sentence, “behind” helps connect the subject (Manny) and the object (the dumpster)

The Composition of a Prepositional Phrase • For a prepositional phrase, we have the preposition and the object of the preposition • This object relates itself to the preposition • For example: • On a fast break • Here, the preposition would be “on,” and the object of the preposition would be “break”
