  3. Language • Russian and Azeri • Azeri controlled but then Russian came tobe a language

  4. History • Heydar elected president • Brought power, independence and strongarmy during Soviet invasion • Son Ilham prime minister • Heydar died of bad illness • Ilham elected president

  5. Holidays • International New Year • Republic Day celebrates the day their republic evolved • National Salvation Day celebrates when they gained independence from the Soviet Union

  6. Family • Married live with the man’s parents for a while • Rural Azeris live in extended familiesto care and save money
