Student Teaching Experience at Country Day School, Guanacaste, Costa Rica - Fall 2010

In Fall 2010, student teachers Jill, Ashley, and Tony embarked on an enriching journey at Country Day School in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. This unique experience took place from August to November, offering a vibrant blend of culture, education, and community. With a motto like “CDSG, the place to be!” and the sentiment of “One family, that’s you and me!”, the school fostered a supportive environment for both teachers and students. The picturesque dry season skies and the serene Playa Brasilito added to the unforgettable memories of this time.

  5. Playa Brasilito Brasilitois the town closest to CDSG campus. There is beach access, as well as small stores to buy groceries and our favorite soda, Soda del Coco.

  10. Life Around Costa Rica Beach Community Church Arenal: an active volcano. Guanacaste farm life
  11. Sea Turtle Nesting Ground Costa Rica is home to many endangered sea turtle nesting grounds. During the months of July – February sea turtles come to the beaches of Costa Rica to lay eggs.

  14. Questions We Had: School Living Situation Every grade level has Spanish class everyday. Specials are taught completely in Spanish. Average class size is much smaller that GA public schools. Costa Rica as a whole is environmentally friendly. The country is big on recycling. Virginia Curriculum Doesn’t have gifted/special needs program Casual work attire On campus apartments. Pay electricity bill at Super Compro. Sun rises/sets really early. (5:15 am/pm) Free community laundry mat on campus. Bring own towels, soft sheets. Grocery store takes card, cash, and colones. Learn some Spanish before going, at least food and greetings.
