  3. History of Thai language Thai language is not mere a language but is a blend of different borrowed languages. The language of Thailand is believed to have come from Chinese – Thai branch of the Sino Tibetan family. The polysyllabic words have been borrowed from Khmer, Pali or Sanskrit. The other principal languages spoken are Malay and Chinese.

  4. Thai Alphabet King Ramkamhaeng created the first Thai alphabet in 1923. The Thai alphabet uses forty-four consonant and fifteen basic vowel characters from Pali and Sanskrit These are horizontally placed, left to right, with no intervening space, to form syllables, words and sentences. Thai language is that the same word can be pronounced in five to six different ways that include normal or middle tone , high, low, rising and falling.Hi=สวัสดี(sa-wat-dee)

Outside Influences on the Thai Language. • The Thai language makes free use of foreign words and has incorporated a significant number of loanwords from a wide variety of languages over time. • The oldest loanwords are believed to derive from the Chinese. Additional loanwords have been taken from Sanskrit, Khmer (the official language of Cambodia), and Portuguese. In more recent years, Thai has also taken loanwords from the English language.

  6. Conclusion The Thai language and people have an intricate history stretching back thousands of years. Despite a vast history, modern-day Thailand did not take its current name or establish its current borders until well into the 20th century. Throughout the many changes the Thai people have faced throughout the country’s complex history, they have managed to preserve an amazingly vibrant culture and language that continues to attract both scholars and tourists.
