  1. Code Enforcement Board Presentation to the Board of County Commissioners January 10, 2012

Code Enforcement Board • Seven members appointed on the basis of experience or interest in the fields of zoning and building control • Shall include, whenever possible: • An architect • A business person • An engineer/surveyor • A general contractor • A subcontractor • A licensed real estate broker or licensed real estate salesman

  3. Code Enforcement Board • Has jurisdiction to hear and decide alleged violations of the codes and ordinances in force in the county • Has the authority to levy fines against those persons found in non-compliance of county codes • Subject to the inclusion of those professional specialties, each district of the county shall be represented by at least one member. All districts are currently represented. • Meets third Wednesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. • Financial Disclosure Required

  4. Code Enforcement Board • Karen Marich has resigned. Ms. Marich was serving in the business representative category. • The terms of three members, Richard Furman, Lyndell L. Mims, and Juan F. Velez, have expired.

  5. Code Enforcement Board • FIRST ACTION REQUESTED: Appointment of an individual to succeed Karen Marich on the Code Enforcement Board with a term expiring December 31, 2013.

  6. Code Enforcement Board • SECOND ACTION REQUESTED: Reappointment of Richard Furman to the Code Enforcement Board with a term expiring December 31, 2014 or appointment of an individual to succeed him.

  7. Code Enforcement Board • THIRD ACTION REQUESTED: Reappointment of Lyndell L. Mims to the Code Enforcement Board with a term expiring December 31, 2014 or appointment of an individual to succeed her.

  10. Membership and Mission Review Board • Makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners concerning appointments to advisory boards. • Conducts sunset reviews of advisory boards. • Meets third Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. • Nine members: one appointed from each of the county commission districts upon recommendation of the district commissioner; one member appointed by the Mayor; and two at large members appointed by the full Board of County Commissioners. • The terms of the two at large members, Ronald O. Rogers and Evelyn S. Rivera, have expired.

Planning and Zoning Commission • Reviews requests for zoning changes; establishes principles and policies for guiding the development of Orange County, and promotes orderly development along the lines indicated in the Comprehensive Plan. • Meets third Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m. • Financial Disclosure Required • Nine members: one appointed from each of the county commission districts upon recommendation of the district commissioner; one member appointed by the Mayor; and two at large members appointed by the full Board of County Commissioners. • The terms of the two at large members, Rev. Kevin Seraaj and Debra Pierre, have expired.

  15. Planning and Zoning Commission • FIRST ACTION REQUESTED: Appointment of an individual to succeed Debra Pierre on the Planning and Zoning Commission with a term expiring December 31, 2013.

Library Board of Trustees • Primary responsibilities: • Acquire property for library purposes • Employ personnel • Adopt and implement policies and procedures for the operation of the library • Submit a budget to the Governing Board for adoption of the millage rate • Meets second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. • Financial Disclosure Required

  19. Library Board of Trustees • Five members appointed by the Governing Board: • Three members representing Orange County • Two members representing the City of Orlando • The term of Sara R. Brady, an Orange County representative, has expired. She has served two terms and, therefore, needs to be replaced.

  20. Library Board of Trustees • ACTION REQUESTED: Nomination of an individual to succeed Sara R. Brady as an Orange County representative on the Library Board of Trustees with a term effective January 10, 2012 and expiring December 31, 2015.
