In January, we focus on the letter sounds F, O, and K, introducing new sight words: "see, look, they, of, you." As we begin consonant blends (sk, br, fl, cr), let's practice at home! In math, we'll learn numbers 18-20 and start our measurement unit using various tools. The 100th day of school is approaching—let's count to 100 creatively! In social studies, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr., while science integrates weather measurement with fun experiments. Important dates: January 16 (Scholastic orders due), January 17 & 20 (No School), January 23 (Report Cards).

Mrs. Torrey’s Newsletter January Reading and Writing This month we will be focusing on the letter sounds of F, O, and K. Our new sight words this month include “see, look, they, of, you” so please practice at home! This month is important because we will begin to make beginning consonant blends (sk, br, fl, cr) when sounding out words. We are reading and growing every day! We are still working hard in writing to write neatly and stay within the appropriate lines! Math This month we will finish our number of the week routine by learning the numbers 18, 19, and 20. We will start our measurement unit by using nonstandard units, tape measures, rulers, and our bodies to measure and compare things around us. We will also celebrate our 100th day of school, as we have waited anxiously! How many ways can we count to 100? Science/Social Studies We will work this month in Social Studies on learning how important our roles are in society, by celebrating and learning about Martin Luther King Jr. Our Science unit will coincide with math, as we use tools to measure weather patterns. We will also use the scientific process for our fun experiments!
