  2. General Observation of the Head and Neck

  3. Thoroughly inspect the patient's scalp and palpate for symmetry and any tenderness. The hair should be parted in several places to examine the condition of the scalp. A systematic (either front to back or back to front) "massage" of the scalp should be performed paying close attention for any abnormal bumps and any sensitive areas.
