Summary of Project • Year 1 and 2- • Focus--L to J for improving student retention of math instruction and assessment of skills • Equipment—L to J licenses, full workstations, and LCD projectors • Year 3— • Added Excel software for all teachers • District-wide Professional Development • Buildings began buying equipment and implementation district-wide
Continued… • Year 4- • Focus moved from assessment and retention to instruction and discussion • Equipment-Tablets, LCD projectors and wireless connections for the tablets • Year 5 and 6— • Focus continued on instruction and discussion • Equipment—Document camera (ELMO)
Internal Evaluation • Initially an implementation gap was noticed between E2T2 classrooms and non-E2T2 classrooms • This gap narrowed and disappeared due to implementation throughout entire buildings • I.T.B.S. has always been the method of evaluating improvement as noted on the following slides
Challenges of the Project • Equipment • LCD cables and mounting • Wireless connection issues • When teachers move classrooms • Control Group • Loss of group due to building wide implementation
New Learning • L to J • Data analysis • Trends • Share with parents • Error analysis • LCD Projectors/Tablets/Document Cameras • Multiple Representations • Reciprocal Teaching • Extends into every curricular area
Impact on Students • L to J • Goal Monitoring • Accountability for concepts previously taught • Previewing concepts yet to come • Error Analysis • Internal Motivation • LCD Projectors/Tablets/Document Cameras • Multiple Representations • Reciprocal Teaching • Motivation
Impact on Teachers • L to J • Progress Monitor • Data to share with parents and colleagues • Comparison from year to year • LCD Projectors/Tablets/Document Cameras • Explicit Instruction • Think Aloud • Reasoning and Proof through Reciprocal Teaching
Benefits of E2T2 • Try strategies and technologies that we wouldn’t have been able to • More students are exploring uses of technology • Math scores have increased since beginning of project • Professional development • Created a higher level of excitement in students and teachers
Sustainability of E2T2 • With additional funds, implementation of current strategies and technologies will continue until every classroom has technology used in E2T2.
