  1. Multimedia Conferencing System Introduction to MCS 3.0 • Pure multitasking conferencing system • Video conference made possible from Window based PC • emulates regular conference in meeting rooms • user-friendly and client-server based • fully integrated network based conferencing system

  2. client client server server client client WAN router router client MLIC client MLIC Multimedia Conferencing System MCS 3.0 architecture :

  3. Multimedia Conferencing System The entities of MCS are : • The Client entity • The Conference Server entity • The MLIC entity • The Compression entity

  4. Multimedia Conferencing System The Client entity performs : • Multimedia captures • Multimedia playback • Data packetization & reconstruction • Communication to server to maintain the RSW control criteria.

  5. Dimension 160 x 120 Image Type 8 bit palletized (256 colors) Protocol UDP (Broadcast Packets) Audio type Wave format Protocol UDP (Broadcast Packets) Multimedia Conferencing System Video & Audio modules :

  6. Multimedia Conferencing System The MLIC entity • MLIC in active site LAN will : • Listen to specified ports for Audio/Video packets • Change to Audio/Video UDP unicast and transmit out. • MLIC in the destination LAN does: • Data packetization & reconstruction • Communication to server to maintain the RSW control criteria.

  7. client server client server LAN 2 LAN 1 router client client client MLIC client MLIC Multimedia Conferencing System The MLIC in MCS architecture :

  8. Multimedia Conferencing System The Server entity • Control the conferencing using the RSW control criteria chosen • To allow users to login into the system • To reflect the document conferencing TCP/IP packets to all participants. • Establish inter-server links (during multi server conferences).

  9. server server WAN server server Multimedia Conferencing System The Multi-Server communication :

  10. Multimedia Conferencing System Data Compression (DC) entity • Detect Audio/Video UDP unicast at the MLIC interface. • Compress Audio/Video data and transmit via router interface. • Receive compressed Audio/Video UDP unicast from router interface. • Uncompress Audio/Video data and transmit via LAN interface. • All other miscellaneous network packets arriving at both interfaces are transparently forwarded to the opposite interface

  11. Multimedia Conferencing System The DC provides : • Implementation of any types of compression algorithm : • H.261 • H.320 • MJPEG • YUV411

  12. Original Image File size : 19.1KB Quality Factor :5 File Size : 1.10KB Quality Factor : 10 File Size : 1.34KB Quality Factor : 75 File Size : 3.86KB Quality Factor : 25 File Size : 1.89KB Quality Factor : 99 File Size : 16.8KB Multimedia Conferencing System Comparison (Quality vs. Size)

  13. Multimedia Conferencing System The Next Generation : MCS 4.0 • full duplex Audio/Video • Uses Internet Real-time streaming standards • Data transmission in Real-time Transfer protocol • Data transmitted in IGMP multicast packets • Real-time conference updates • Dynamic color correction
