Homework Policy – HW examples • formal academic tasks, e.g. essays, mathematics exercises. • research, e.g. reading, data searches, interviews, library visits, simple and safe experiments. • extended projects. • art and design work. • reading for its own sake. • finishing classwork on occasions, but not frequently.
Homework Policy - Organisation • Staff are expected to set homework according to the published homework timetable. There will usually be two or three subjects per night. • The homework in each subject for year 9 students should take about 30 minutes to complete; • All students will be issued with a school diary in which all homework given is recorded. • Failure to do homework or to do work of an acceptable standard will be recorded by teachers in the diary. • Parents will be asked to sign the diary at the weekend to acknowledge they are aware of the entries and make any comments. • Tutors will check the use of diaries by students and parents and sign fortnightly.
Assessment Policy – an extract • Students’ work should be marked at least every THREE weeks in all Years. This may be a quick check that work is complete and up to date; where tasks have been set that will indicate how well the student has learnt a topic, the marking will need to be more thorough. • Summary notes are most useful for overall assessment of the strengths of the answer and advice for future improvement in the form of clear targets.
