“Enoch Walked With God” • Was Contemporary with Adam • Translated 57 years after death of Adam, 69 years before Noah, year of the world 987 • Enoch and Elijah only two human beings of record who entered Glory without seeing death • “Walked with God” – does not get better than that
“Enoch Walked With God” • Amid most wicked surroundings • Human race about 1,000 years old • “Evil company corrupts good morals” - 1 Corinthians 15:33 • Descendants of Seth corrupted by association & intermarriage with descendants of Cain • Result: Genesis 6:5 “evil continually”
Humanity Same In All Ages • Same temptations, conflicts and victories as we do • Questions about them impossible to answer • How did they live so many years? • Cannot tell how or when he was “taken” • On Authority of God’s Word, we know it was so • Deuteronomy 29:29 “secret things belong to the Lord our God”
Walking with God in This World – No Easy Times • NOT Easy for David, Daniel and Jeremiah • NOT Easy for Jesus or early Christians • NOT Easy NOW! • Universal Principle – 1 John 1:7 • “Walk in the light as God is in the light…” • We have fellowship with God and God has fellowship with us. • “blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Genesis & Hebrews on Enoch • Genesis 5:24 NKJV 24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” • Hebrews 11:5 NKJV 5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death,… before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”
“Enoch walked with God?” • God did not literally walk by his side on earth • Figurative expression – implies close relationship with God • To walk with God and to Please God one and the same thing • Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” • 1 Samuel 2:30 “those who honor Me I will honor”
TO WALK WITH GOD IS: • To be in agreement with Him (reconciled to Him) 2 Corinthians 5:20 “be reconciled to God” • Conducting ourselves as being under the continual inspection of His all-seeing eye – Hebrews 4:13 “no creature is hidden from His sight” • To live a life of fellowship with Him and obedience to him – 1 John 1:6,7; 2:3,4 • To please Him in everything, and offend Him in nothing - 1 John 3:22
What Happened to Enoch? • Genesis: “He was not, for God took him.” • Hebrews: “taken away so that he did not see death…and was not found, because God had taken him.” • Not here – gone from the earth • Transferred from earth to the presence of God • Elijah and Enoch evidence of God and a realm beyond this veil of tears! • Jesus to the thief – Luke 23:43
Enoch’s Message to Us? • IF we walk with God, as he did, it will please God and when Jesus returns he will take us into the Heavenly realm • To be pleasing to God, must be forgiven and justified by the shed blood of Christ • Must render obedience to the Gospel of Christ: Believe, Repent, Confess, be Baptized • Be faithful till death, receive the crown of life – Revelation 2:10
Walk with God = Walk with Christ • Colossians 2:6 “Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him” – walk WITH = IN Him • Many live “moral” lives, with no faith in Christ. • John 3:16 “God so loved the world…” • John 14:6 “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.” • Have You Started to Walk With God?
