  1. Agnosticism In The Church Ephesians 3:1-12

  2. Introduction • Agnosticism • Cannot be certain of God’s existence • Not enough evidence • Truth is relative and situational • Right and wrong not absolute

  3. Introduction • Making way into the church • Can’t know for sure about certain things • Plea for tolerance • Preaching no longer distinctive

  4. Importance of Revelation • Faith based on evidence • From God by the Spirit (2 Peter 1:19-21) • Inspired, or “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16) • Only logical explanation

  5. Importance of Revelation • Importance of Truth • Only Truth sets us free (John 8:32) • Truth is objective and knowable (Ephesians 3:3-5; Jude 3) • Provides an absolute moral standard

  6. Importance of Revelation • Summary • We must be open minded (Acts 17:10, 11) • Speak Truth with certainty (Luke 1:3, 4)

  7. Areas of Agnosticism • Morality • Influence of society • Sexuality including homosexuality (Romans 1:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10) • Marriage and divorce (Matthew 19:9) • Drinking (1 Peter 4:3) • Sin in general (Galatians 5:19-21)

  8. Areas of Agnosticism • Number of churches • Ecumenical services • Talk of “branches of the Restoration Movement” • Opponents are labeled as narrow minded • We can know (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 1:22, 23; 4:4)

  9. Areas of Agnosticism • Not sure about acceptable worship • Lord’s Supper on other days (Acts 20:7) • Instrumental music (Ephesians 5:19) • Apostolic worship can be known (Acts 2:42) • Vain worship not accepted (Matthew 15:8, 9) • Must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24)

  10. Areas of Agnosticism • Uncertain of man’s spiritual condition • Told we cannot know (John 5:13) • Told not to judge (Matthew 7:1, 2; John 7:24) • Some are clearly in danger (Galatians 6:1, 2; James 5:19, 20)

  11. Conclusion • Time for certainty • Souls are depending on it
