Keeping the Focus on A/A* students in a multicultural comprehensive school

At Valentines High School, we prioritize the academic excellence of our A/A* students by implementing targeted strategies that align with our core values. We set individual targets linked to performance management and conduct half-termly departmental reviews. Our culture encourages high expectations through compulsory interventions, staff collaboration, and innovative programs for gifted and talented students. We assess Year 7 across all subjects and use e-learning platforms to extend learning opportunities. By celebrating student successes, we foster an environment of aspiration and achievement.

  4. Aspirational Culture • Interventions for all – and compulsory • Mock results day • Staff room ‘war room’ board • Use of sixth formers to inspire

  5. G and T Strategy • Year 7 assessment in all subjects plus cat predictions • EAL G&T programme • Once G&T, always G&T

  6. Specific Interventions • Equal resourcing to C/D borderline work • Setting in all core subjects • No early entry for top sets • Use of e-learning platform for extension work • Sixth form assisted A*/A sessions in English and Humanities

  7. Celebration of results throughout the school
