  5. PEACEBUILDING COMMISSION (PBC) The PBC is an advisory subsidiary organ of the General Assembly and the Security Council (the 1st such body of its kind. PURPOSE:To bring together all relevant actors to marshal resources, coordinate, exchange views and to advise and propose integrated strategies for post-conflict peacebuilding and recovery. The PBC provides the space for strategy formulation, sharing of best practices, resource mobilization and coordinating international efforts in post-conflict peacebuilding.

PBC- Country Selection Criteria Resolutions 60/180 and 1645 (2005) state that a country can be included on the PBC’s agenda through: Requests for advice from the Security Council; • Requests for advice from the ECOSOC or the General Assemblyon a country with which the Security Council is not seized; • Requests for advice from Member States which are not on the agenda of the Security Council; • Requests for advice from the Secretary-General. Six countries currently on the PBC agenda: Liberia, Burundi, Central African Republic, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone

Peacebuilding Fund Facilities - & Purpose COUNTRY WITH PEACEBUILDING NEEDS AND SIGNIFICANT UN PRESENCE Situation: emergency or ‘shock’ (e.g.’ political violence) at any time, or transitional government, or unforeseen needs; or significant Peacebuilding opportunity arises which triggers the SG to initiate a UN system-wide response Situation: typically within 5 years of conflict; and / or significant risk lapsing into conflict and - existing PCNA, or UNDAF / PRS incorporating Peacebuilding goals; and - full / effective government partnership in identifying priorities and overseeing PBF resources; UN Country Team Project(s) Priority Plan Immediate Response Facility (IRF) Peacebuilding and Recovery Facility (PRF) see www.unpbf.org
