  2. Description Enter: the hallway Knocking on a front door adorned with a beautiful homemade wreath makes one feel welcome before the door is even opened. Add to that a bucket of fresh flowers by the doormat and you could not ask for a warmer reception. Serve: the dining room The brightly colored flowers on the table draw in all of the hues of the surrounding room, creating a delightful focal point. The tablecloth is actually an old linen sheet, while gingham seat pads on the painted chairs keep the area from becoming too formal. Unwind: the bathroom A brimming tub or a waterfall shower are among life’s pleasures. No matter how big or small your bathroom may be, you can create a sanctuary to soothe your soul. I love to place little jars of rosemary and thyme in my bathing area. The warmth in the room releases the scent and the worries of the day instantly melt away. Dream: the bedroom This little room holds a collection of cherished items perfect for make-believe. The dollhouse is home to a family of mice. Rabbits and dolls sit ready to be played with, while a trio of tins holds small toys and games. The antique sleigh bed is topped with a heap of eiderdowns and a jumble of throw pillows. Old boxes slip easily under the bed for handy storage. Relax: the living room I find a room that is used on a regular basis is best decorated in neutral shades with wooden floors and furnished with items that are comfortable and well-loved. Then you can add decorative elements that reflect the seasons. It should not be a pristine space that is hardly used. A living room that is cozy, functional and simple will invite friends and family to sit down and enjoy spending time together. Tend: the garden Fresh flowers from the garden look delightful when arranged in a bucket or pitcher on the front step of your home. The added benefit of leaving the flowers outside is that they last that much longer. Cut daffodils, for instance, will last for over a month outside. It is quite amazing. In the autumn, place a bucket full of branches, with the leaves beginning to show their colors, on your doorstep instead.
