  1. Tinnitus

  2. Tinnitus is described as hearing noises in ears when there is no outside source of the sounds. The sound ranges varies from high to low pitch, single tone to multi-tonal, or having no tonal quality. Tinnitus may begin suddenly or progress gradually.

  3. Symptoms Tinnitus symptoms include the below types of noises in ears: • Ringing • Buzzing • Roaring • Clicking • Hissing

  4. Causes of Tinnitus There are many different causes of tinnitus. Some of the most common causes include: Medications Meniere’s disease Disorders in the outer ear Disorders in the middle ear Disorders in the inner ear Note : Though the majority of tinnitus sufferers also have hearing loss, the presence of tinnitus does not indicate that one is losing hearing.

  5. Types of Tinnitus There are two broad types of tinnitus: Subjective tinnitusis tinnitus in which only the particular person can hear. This is the most common type of tinnitus. It can be caused by ear problems in your outer, middle or inner ear. Objective tinnitusis tinnitus in which doctor can hear when he or she does an examination. This is rare type and it may be caused due to blood vessel problem, an inner ear bone condition or muscle contractions.

  6. Treatment Generally there are two types of treatments are available for tinnitus. They are: • Tinnitus counseling • Use of mechanical devices such as hearing aids or white noise generators

  7. How can hearing aids help tinnitus? Person those who have a tinnitus problem can opt to hearing aids which distracts from the tinnitus and make able to hear much better. The hearing aids amplify surrounding noises so that the tinnitus will be no longer heard. Hearing aids are ideal if there is an associated hearing loss with the tinnitus.

  8. Unfortunately, tinnitus is not a simple problem with a simple solution. Everybody's tinnitus noise is specific to them, and as a result treatments need to be tailored to the individual.
