  2. Who is King Sejong The Great? DOB : May 7, 1397 DOD : May 18, 1450 (aged 53) He created ‘Hunminjeoneum’(Korean), and was the king of Joseon, South Korea.

  3. When he was young… He had 2 brothers, and the eldest brother, Yangnyeong thought he is lacking in the skills of Kingship unlike Sejong himself. So he thought to place Sejong as King is his duty. Yangnyeong acted rudely and he abdicated the throne in favor of Sejong.

  4. His career… He was good at technological advances. He wanted to help farmers, so he published the handbook for farmers, ‘Nongsajikseol’ which contained information about different farming techniques.

  5. His career… About 560 years ago, people in Korea used Chinese character, but it was hard to read, write, and understand. Some people didn’t even know the Chinese character. King Sejong the Great wanted to govern national with our own language effectively, so he created ‘Hunminjeoneum’(Korean). Each letter is based on the patterns made by the mouth, tongue and teeth when making the sound related to the character. You can write the letters as you pronounce. Hangul is a UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
