  4. Purpose of theTraffic Records Committee • Provide a statewide forum for the creation & coordination of improvement projects. • Leverage technology & appropriate standards to improve traffic records data. • Improve the interoperability & exchange of traffic data among systems and stakeholders.

  5. Purpose of theOversight Committee • Provide policy and program oversight for traffic records efforts. • Ensure Traffic Records projects align with individual agency priorities. • Establish a collaborative corps of executive leaders to enhance interagency cooperation and achieve mutual goals.

National Traffic Records Agenda • Improve the timeliness, accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of states’ traffic records data. • SAFETEA-LU Section 408 Grants administered through NHTSA • Provides $34.5 million per year for 4 consecutive years. • States required to meet certain eligibility requirements.

  8. SAFTEA Grant CriteriaSection 408 • We must first demonstrate that we have: • Established a traffic records committee • Completed a traffic records assessment within the last five years (Nov. 2003) • Comprehensive multi-year strategic plan In Progress

NHTSA Assessment Recommendations • Implement an electronic data collection and reporting system. • Develop a statewide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) data system. • Improve the ability to locate traffic events utilizing GPS and/or GIS. • Improve the structure and activities of the Washington Traffic Records Committee.

  10. Establishing Priorities • Conducted 5 months of interviews to collect information on current state • Developed State Goals and 7 high level Objectives • Created strategies and performance measures to document progress

Integration Appreciation Training Coordination Standards Technology Leverage technology and appropriate government and industry standards to improve the collection, dissemination, and analysis of traffic records data. Improve the interoperability and exchange of traffic records data among stakeholders for increased efficiency and enhanced integration. Promote the value of traffic records data and encourage training opportunities to maximize its effectiveness as decision support. Provide an ongoing statewide forum for traffic records and support the coordination of multi- jurisdictional initiatives.
