A – 0-8cm; gray (10YR5/1), sand, clear irregular, wk, gr, fr E – 9-22cm; light gray (10YR7/1), sand, abrupt, wavy, wk, sbk, loose Bh – 23-38cm; red/yellow (7.5YR6/8), sand, clear, smooth, wk, sbk, loose Lots of fine roots to this point Bw 39-93cm; red/yellow (7YR6/6), sand, diffuse, smooth, sl, sg, loose Bw2 – 94-154cm; brown / yellow (10YR6/8), sand, gradual, smooth, sl, sg, loose. Note: Dark “Tongue” of OM E – 155+cm; pale brown (10YR8/4), sand, sl, sg. Note: small indications of SHWT.

  4. Location 1 – Cedar Key Dune Sand

  5. Immokalee Fine Sand - Spodosol • Poorly Drained – Heavy Rains • Pine Scrub – Organic Acids • Highly Reduced Environment, no concentrations • Couldn’t get to a Bh horizon, if there was one.

  6. Location 2 – Pine Acres Pine Acres Dune Sand

  7. Ap 0-23cm; dark brown (7.5YR 3/2), sandy loam, clear – wavy, mo-gr-vfr. Many small roots E 24-63cm; yellow/red (5YR 4/6), loamy sand, clear – smooth, wk-gr-vfr. Some small roots Bt 64-89cm; dark red(2.5YR 4/8), sandy clay loam, clear – smooth, mo-pl-fr. Bt2 90-122cm; yellow/red (5YR 5/8), sandy loam, clear – smooth, wk-gr-vfr. Bt3 123+cm; yellow red (5YR 5/8), loamy sand, diffuse – smooth, wk-gr-fr. No redox features, no standing water despite a lot of rain, soil is very well drained!!!

  9. Placid Sand - Inceptisol – Typic Humaquepts • OR • Sparr Fine Sand - Ultisol - Paleudults • Both POOLY DRAINED • Significantly more clay

  10. Summary Sandy Soils Water can freely move through the profile Higher location w/o a limiting layer No Standing water Lower positions, saturated areas More clay in lower B horizons Depletions / Concentrations Gleyed Chroma
