  3. Punctuation marks Comma • A flash drive,a device to store information, is small enough for you to carry anywhere. (A flash drive = a device to store information) Dashes • Sun block --- a kind of cream that prevents your skin from burning --- must be applied fifteen minutes before lying in the sun. Parentheses • The cardiologist (a heart doctor) has many choices of new treatment suitable for his patient.

  4. Words Synonym • A synonym = a word with the same meaning • These plants are affected by fluctuations, variation, in temperature. • Some people are very worried about the shift, the change, towards free market thinking in Asia.

  5. Antonym • An antonym = a word with opposite meaning • Although Bangkok is notorious for its traffic, it is famous for modern technology. • Import business is deterioratingbut export business is booming.

  6. Explanation • Plastic surgeryisa way for many teenagers to change their look. • Macrocardiarefers to a condition that the heart is too large. • World-class services of the Oriental Hotel was so admirable that guests who come back always decide to stay there.

  7. Example • Financial transactions such asdepositing, withdrawing and transferring money can be easily processed with the ATM (automated teller machine). • Accessories e.g. a carrying case and battery recharger are free with the purchase of a cellular phone.
