  2. Paralyzed • Unable to move or act. • Erica was so nervous • about her speech , she felt • paralyzed.

  3. Astronaut • A person trained to fly in a spacecraft. • Astronaut Mae Jemison was the first African American female astronaut.

  4. Universe • Everything that exists including Earth, the planets, stars, and all of space. • The universe is so large that everything in space is very far apart.

  5. Endless • Having no limit or end. • There seemed to be an endless amount of water after the hurricane.

  6. Protested • Complained or objected to something. • Ms. M. protested that fur people should not be used in testing.

  7. Realistic • Showing people, things, or events as they appear in everyday life. • You might want to be a rock star, but finishing school is a more realistic goal.

  8. Sensible • Showing good judgment. • If you are biking, wearing a helmet is sensible.

  9. Pennants • Long, narrow flags shaped like triangles. • Many people have LSU pennants in their rooms on flying from their cars.

  10. Time warp • A shift in the progress of time that causes it to stop, slow down, or speed up. • I felt like I was in a time warp as I was falling down the stairs.
