Mohil Ramgovindji is facing a disciplinary inquiry for alleged sexual misconduct after he reportedly told students the films were part of the curriculum. He also claimed he was “preparing them for the harsh realities of the hospitality industry that they were training for.” Ramgovindji is working at the Durban Institute of Technology. He lectures at the hotel school on the ML Sultan campus of the institute. The allegations surfaced when female students fearing intimidation or embarrassment approached South African Democratic Student movement (Sadesmo), which demanded that Ramgovindji be suspended with immediate effect. An angry Sadesmo spokesperson, Sihle Nsindane, told the weekly Independent here: “At stake is the future of students who are victimized by people old enough to be their fathers.” The boys and girls in our groups were segregated, but when I walked into the room allocated to me, I found Ramgovindji watching a pornographic movie with female students.
