LITERATURE. To Ponder. What according to you is literature? Harry potter, Charlie and th e chocolate factory, Percy Jackson, Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, Tagore’s Gitanjali etc. which one would you classify as literature- read a few lines from each of the above.

To Ponder • What according to you is literature? • Harry potter, Charlie and the chocolate factory, Percy Jackson, Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, Tagore’s Gitanjali etc. which one would you classify as literature- read a few lines from each of the above. • Who decides if something is a piece of literature? • How will I know about the new writings which are classified as part of literature?

  3. What is Literature? • Literature to some is artistic form of writing. • To some it means the beauty of expression. • To some literature shows us what happened in a particular era- • So how is it different from history or is it same as history. • To some it means the art of written work.

  4. Why we need Literature? • Read for pleasure • Read for fun. • Literature helps to know about the customs, beliefs, thoughts, customs of different ages.

  5. Forms and technique of Literature? • FORMS • Fiction • Non- Fiction • TECHINIQUE • Poetry • Prose • Drama • Etc.

  6. Elements of Literature • Theme-The main idea/what author wants to convey. • Plot-What happens and why • Settings- As the name suggest-where, when , how etc. • Characters- We all know about this. • Style- of the language-old, easy, difficult etc. • Symbols- Represents ideas or things.
