  1. Equations with Decimal and Fractional Terms Slideshow 22, Mathematics Mr Richard Sasaki Room 307

  2. Objectives • Review algebraic vocabulary • Solve equations with decimal terms • Solve equations with fractional terms (making a common denominator)

  3. Vocabulary Review Constant Co-efficient Operator Terms

  4. Decimal Terms Decimals don’t complicate anything but they make things messy. However, there are tricks to make the calculations easier. Example Any ideas how we can make this simpler? Solve ×10 ×10 4 Let’s multiply it all by 10! -5 -5 - Makes it easier, yeah?

  5. Decimal Terms Multiply the decimal by 10, 100, 1000 or whatever that’ll make the numbers integers. Example Solve As the smallest term has a coefficient in the hundredths, let’s multiply by 100. Big numbers make things messy! Try the worksheet!

  7. Fractional Terms Example Are fractions nice and easy? Let’s see! Solve Hahaha, that was a bit of a bargain…let’s try a harder one.

  8. Please try the last worksheet! Fractional Terms Example is another way to write . is another way to write . Solve Oh dear! What is ?? We need to find a common denominator. If we run out of room vertically, we can use (implies that).
