SHARE Project “Safe Healthy Attitudes Require Education” • Safe Schools/Healthy Students initiative is a unique Federal grant-making program designed to prevent violence and substance abuse among our Nation’s youth, schools, and communities. • This initiative seeks to develop real-world knowledge about what works best to promote safe and healthy environments in which America’s children can learn and develop. • Broome-Tioga BOCES has been awarded this grant to form the SHARE consortium. • This 4-year grant of 5.6 million dollars is being used in partnership among: • Binghamton University • Lourdes Hospital • Cornell Cooperative Extension • Broome County Mental Health • Broome County Sheriff’s Office • Broome County Department of Probation • PACT Program (BCSD) • 10 local school districts

SHARE Project “Safe Healthy Attitudes Require Education” • Our initiative will address student needs in the areas of: • Anti-bullying & Violence Prevention • Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention • Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Supports • Mental Health Services • Early Childhood Development • We’ll also be working collaboratively with our partners to develop • recommended policy improvements to enhance school safety.

SHARE Project “Safe Healthy Attitudes Require Education” For the 2012-2013 school year SHARE is hoping to bring the following programs/services to the 10 participating school districts: Families and School Together (FAST) A school based multi family program with an at school youth group aimed at middle school students. An additional once a month follow up group called FASTWORKS is offered to the graduated of FAST. Strengthening Families Program (SFP) A community based multi family skills training program, SFP services parents and youth ages 10-14 with higher needs, particularly where substance abuse is an issue. Mental Health Juvenile Justice (MHJJ) A program that works with youth who are involved in the Juvenile Justice System in Broome County and are either Person in Need of Supervision (PINS) or a Juvenile Delinquent (JD). Parents and Children Together (PACT) A home visiting program that offers supportive and educational services to families including teen parents from pregnancy through the start of kindergarten.
