Children Repay Parents • Matt. 15:3-6, John 19:26-27 • 1 Tim 5:4But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. • 8But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. • 16If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

New Hands Are Rocking • Mothers take on careers and institutions take on their children (daycare, early school) • Saved in childbearing: 1 Tim. 2:9-15 • Trained by older women: Titus 2:3-5 • Grandparents get a second shift: 2 Kgs 11:1 • lack energy, harder to bridge generation gap • should get to enjoy, not have to discipline children • Divorce, Absent fathers, “broken homes” • Dysfunctional families: Eph. 6:1-4

Mothers Aren’t Appreciated • Used to be the highest compliment: • Rom. 16:13, 1 Tim. 5:1-2, Matt. 12:46-50 • Disappointments in her life: • Prov 10:1 ...A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. • Prov 15:20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother. • Prov 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. • She sacrifices herself for her child’s development

Bad Behaviors • Prov 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach. • Prov 23:22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. • Prov 28:24 Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. • Prov 30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.

  6. Mothers’ Day Gift • What should I give her? • What would truly make her happy? • Prov 23:24-25 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
