Seta Landscape • DoL has not released notification regarding the future Seta landscape • Once the notice is gazetted there will be a public comment phase, which will include public hearings • Fasset Board preference to maintain status quo • Move from Department of Labour to Department of Higher Education and Training due to take place by November 2009 2

LCG 2009/2010 due 31 March 2010 • Learnership Cash Grant • Commencement period 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2009 • Firm must employ fewer than 150 • Extension requests to Fasset on or before 31 Mar 2010 • Grant due 31 March 2010 • Higher amount for people with disabilities – R27,000 vs. R47,250 for 3-year programme 5

  6. Tax Amendment Bill • Released for public comment • Documents on www.treasury.gov.za • Substantial positive changes regarding the learnership tax allowance • Increase in allowance for multi-year learnerships • Forward your comments directly to Treasury and/or work with your professional body 6

Fasset Annual Report and AGM • Fasset recognised by DoL (2008 National Skills Conference) as SA’s top performing Seta • 3 436 learners were registered in this year – total learners registered since 2000 = 31 219 • 15 862 learners have completed and placed in employment • LL remains a flagship initiative with 41 686 delegates attending LL since 2000 9

Development Projects • To address shortage of professionals in sector • Funds training of learners in workplace readiness skills – which includes both soft skills and technical financial skills • Learners are black and/or disabled • Once employed by the company may be put forward for a Learnership Cash Grant (LCG) 11

Bonani Workplace Readiness • Black unemployed finance graduates with B.Comm degrees or National Diplomas • Offered in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Free Sate and the Western Cape • Intensive 5 month Workplace Readiness Programme (WRP) including training in a ‘virtual office’ environment • Contact Waldo Jonker (011) 466-3312 • www.fasset.org.za for more details 12
