The Prato Centre • Opened 2001 • 18th Century Palazzo Vaj • Located in historic Prato, Italy • Prato, Tuscany – 15 min to Florence, 2 hrs to Rome • 12,000 staff and students have worked and studied there to date • Aim to develop Australia’s links with Europe, through research collaboration, seminars and conferences and as a centre of study for Australian students • Fully equipped facility – modern computer lab; free Wi-Fi; AV facilities; library; meeting rooms; offices

  3. Study programs • Taught in English by Monash’s elite academics • Some subjects co-taught with academics from Italy, Canada, USA, UK • Arts programs grown from 3 to 20 in three years • 2 – 6 weeks in length • Quota: 25 students per program

  5. Eligibility • Active enrolment • 48 credit points completed • 60% average • Academic approval

Costs • Application fee: $450 (administration, staff & facilities at Prato) • Accommodation: $45 pp, per night (twin-share; includes breakfast) • Flights; Insurance; Living; Travel; Meals (organised by student) • Total cost: $4,000 - $7,000 (depending on type & length of program) Funding • Monash travel grant: $450 - $1700 • OS HELP loan: Up to $5824

  10. Chamber Music in Prato • Summer Semester in alternating years. In 2012 it is the Chamber Music at Prato • Classical / Chamber Music in Prato - 19 November to 7 December 2012 • The Chamber Music at Prato program includes string, voice, wind, piano, composition and brass students • The 2010 program included work with eminent European musicians, including: • Professor of Flute from Belgrade University • LjubisaJovanovic and HelfriedFister from Cologne • Italian musicians from the local Verdi School provided students and staff with valuable insight into the style and gesture of Italian music making Students also travelled to Florence enjoying concerts featuring world class musicians such as YoYo Ma, MischaMaisky, and Julian Rachlin

  11. Jazz Music in Prato • Summer Semester in alternating years. In 2012 it is the Chamber Music at Prato • 2013 (Dates TBC) • Students participate in workshops with acclaimed Italian jazz musicians and academics from diverse backgrounds • In 2009 these included MirkoGuerrini and Cristina Zavalloni as well as premier international jazz artists like Paul McCandless • In 2009 Monash students also worked alongside students from the local music school ScuolaComualediMusica 'Guiseppi Verdi' preparing for a series of performances at local popular jazz clubs and the beautiful Magnolfi Theatre. • The tour culminated in a week-long residency at a jazz club in Verona, Italy where students attended classes by day and performed by night. • Other activities included master classes, classes in practice technique, ear training and Italian
