  3. Google Sketchup • How to start with Sketchup • How to colour your model • How to animate a Sketchup model • How to export an model • How to convert from avi to mpeg1 and use

Google Sketchup • After downloading Sketchup, look through the tutorials, and try drawing some simple 3D shapes, don’t forget to remove the man • Use the views buttons to check how things look from different angles Make 3D, select face, rotate, round off edges Draw object tools Moving the object, and views Look around the object, side view, plan view, etc.

Colouring your torch design is easy Select the paint bucket and select the material you want to use Using the paint bucket, click your model, you will need to select each face to colour the whole of your model If you want to change the colour of the material, once you have coloured the model, select Edit and change the colour Google Sketchup Choose materials

Google Sketchup • How to animate a Sketchup image • Sketch an image • Go to view, animation, add scene • Select the orbit tool (tool to navigate around the screen) and travel around showing the view you want to animate. • Once got that view click.. view, animation, add scene carry on until you have all the animation you require… • Trial it… view , animation, play scene

Google Sketchup • Now you can mess with it and refine it… • Go to view, animation, settings and change the scene transition times and interval between scenes, you can make it seamless Virtually! • Now export: file, export, animation it exports as an .avi file which can be played in real player.

Google sketchup • Transferring .avi to mpeg1 , this can be used in PowerPoint. • Download WM converter (free) and easily convert .avi (also Animoto or .flv files (flash video) files to mpeg 1. • Drop into a PowerPoint and away you go.. • Here are some examples by Year 7 Students Sketchup animation by Karan Kanwar Y7 Sketchup animation by Mike Liu Y7
