  2. carbohydrates • The function of carbohydrates is to give energy to all the cells in our body and they fuel the basal metabolic rate • complex simple • Carbohydrates contain carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. • The bonds between the monomers in disaccharides and polysaccharides can be broken by hydrolysis. • Carbohydrate monomers are called monosaccharides e.g. glucose and fructose.

  3. fats • Fats provide energy, keep the body warm, and protect the vital organs from impacts. • Monounsaturated FatPolyunsaturated Fat • Saturated fat Trans fat • Fat is needed for absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. • Fat also provides essential fatty acids that the body needs for heart health, to make hormones and to build healthy cells and skin. • The fat layer under the skin also helps to insulate the body against extreme temperatures.

  4. protein • Protein is necessary for the building and repair of body tissues.  • Structural categories cellular component • Protein is an essential component of the diet and helps your body repair muscle, grow tissue, regulate hormones, control metabolism, defend against illness, and more. • Protein is what makes up your ligaments, tendons, muscles, hair, nails, skin, teeth, tissue, organs, and bones. About half of the non-water mass of your body is made up of protein.

There are 13 different vitamins that have been identified as important nutrients for humans. • Vitamin A Vitamin B Vitamin C VitaminD • All of the B vitamins help us get energy from the foods we eat. • Vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene (a form of vitamin A) act as antioxidants. They prevent cells from being damaged by oxygen. • Vitamin A is important for normal vision.

  7. minerals • Vitamins and minerals are substances that are found in foods we eat. Your body needs them to work properly, so you grow and develop just like you should.
