  2. Guglielmo MarconiPersonal Life • Marconi had a brother called Alfonso and a stepbrother named Luigi. On 16 March 1905 Guglielmo Marconi married Beatrice O'Brien. They had four children called Degna, Gioia, Lucia and Giulio. Sadly the Marconi’s divorced in 1924. Beatrice Marconi married her second husband named Liborio Marignoli on 3 March 1924 and had a daughter, Flaminia. • On 12 June 1927 Marconi married Maria Cristina Bezzi-Scali. They had one daughter, Maria Elettra Elena Anna. • Later in life, Marconi was an active Italian Fascist and an apologist for their ideology and actions such as the attack by Italian forces in Ethiopia. • Marconi wanted to personally introduce in 1931 the first radio broadcast of a Pope, Pius XI, announcing at the microphone: "With the help of God, who places so many mysterious forces of nature at man's disposal, I have been able to prepare this instrument which will give to the faithful of the entire world the joy of listening to the voice of the Holy Father".

Thiswasnot a new idea buthemanagedtoassemble and improve a numberofcomponents, unifying and adaptingthemtohis system. • At the ageoftwentyhebuilt a stormalarmmade up of a battery, a coherer and anelectricbellwhichwent off iftherewas a lightning. Heshowedthisexperimenttohisparents. Hisfatherwas so impressedthathegavehis son allof the moneyhehad on him so Guglielmo couldbuy more materialsforhisinvention. • Hisinventionof the wireless telegraphdidnotrecieveanyattention in Italy and Marconi movedto England in 1896. In London aftermanydemonstrations Marconi begantorecieveinternationalattention. In 1899 the first demonstrationtookplace in the UnitedStates. At the beginigof the 20th century Marconi beganinvestigating the possibilitiesofsignalingcompletelyacross the Atlantic. The first radio messageto cross the Atlantic from North America wastransmited on 17 December 1902.
