Q14: Transit improvements by mode: BUS • Over 66% of the transit riders who responded take MBTA bus service for some or all of their commute. • The routes most noted for these issues were the CT1, 47 and 1 bus routes, each receiving over 50 comments. • Areas Needing Improvement: • Increased frequency: 76% • Reliability/On Time: 70% • Recommendations: • Better coordinate the schedules of the 1 and CT1 and 47 to avoid vehicle bunching and increase the frequency of service along these routes to increase capacity. • Encourage the MBTA to pursue bus rapid transit pilots in the Dudley to Harvard and Dudley to Downtown corridors as described in the BRT report.   17. Orange Line: About 29% of the transit riders who responded use the orange line for some or all of their commute. Areas Needing Improvement: Increased Frequency: 70% Reliability/On Time Service: 60% Increased Capacity: 50% Recommendations: Follow the progress of the MBTA’s plan to replace the aging orange line vehicles with new cars between 2018-2022. Procurement will increase the number of trains on the orange line from 120 to 152 vehicles and feel this, along with the improved design of the car with help to increase the frequency and capacity of the service. Q14: Transit improvements by mode: Commuter Rail • About 26% of the transit riders who responded use commuter rail for their commute. • The most popular lines are Providence/Stoughton, and Framingham/Worcester; although there were respondents on all twelve MBTA Commuter Rail lines. • Areas Needing Improvement: • Increased Frequency: 68% • Reliability/On Time Service: 60% • A fair number of commuter rail riders noted that fare evasion/platform checks. • Recommendations: • Provide updated vehicles with increased capacity and where possible add additional service to increase frequency of the trains on commuter rail. • Follow process of updating its fare collection with the AFC 2.0 and look forward to seeing this new system in place in 2019-2020.
