Library Information Resources Network • The Library Information Resources Network contains a collection of library and information resource databases, which provide access to a vast array of scholarly resources including magazine and journal articles, newspapers, reference works, and ebooks, as well as audio/visual files.

  3. This is the LIRN Home Page, from here you can access the various Databases within LIRN LIRN Home Page

  4. LIRN provides access to nine different databases, which in turn contain thousands of articles and resources. LIRN Search InfoTrac ProQuest eLibrary Bowker’s Books in Print Patron Books in Print RCLweb EBSCO Host EBSCO Host (Teacher) LIRN Databases

  5. LIRN Search

  6. LIRN Search is a feature of LIRN that allows you to search a wide range of databases available through LIRN. LIRN Search allows you the option to select a variety of individual databases or select a collection of databases by general subject. LIRN Search

  7. Using LIRN Search • To use LIRN Search first select the databases which you want to search, or select one of the broad subject areas. Then enter your search terms.

  8. Results Page • This is the LIRN Search Results Page, it will contain a list of articles related to your search.

  10. INFOTRAC

  11. InfoTrac is a collection of databases provided by Gale/Cengage. Infotrac provides access to thirty-three databases covering a wide variety of subjects and disciplines. INFOTRAC

  12. PowerSearch is one of the most versatile and useful features of the InfoTrac system. With PowerSearch you can search thirteen of the InfoTrac databases at once, saving time and eliminating duplications PowerSearch

  15. One of the most effective features of the InfoTrac system is the “Citation Tool”. Located in the red “Tool Box” in the upper right corner of a full-text article, the “Citation Tool” allows the user to retrieve an accurate citation for that article in a variety of citation styles.   16. ProQuest is an excellent database accessible through the LIRN • ProQuest offers users access to thousands of full-text articles • ProQuest is an especially valuable resource for Nursing and Allied Health students

  17. ProQuest Main Page • This is the ProQuest Basic Search Page. From here you can run basic “Keyword” Searches, as well as access many other features of the ProQuest Databases

  18. Conducting a Basic Search • Just like with the other LIRN Databases you can use ProQuest to conduct basic searches for Full-Text articles. • You can select Full-Text and Scholarly Journal articles right from the basic search page.

  19. Basic Search Results • This is the results page for a basic search of the Keyword Term Endometriosis Each of these articles is in full-text. • Now lets look at an individual article.

  20. Choosing Full-Text • This is a single record for an article, notice that you have the choice to access the article as an abstract/citation or as a full-text or full-text PDF

  21. Full-Text Article • This is an example of a Full-Text article. • Notice the Cite This tab near the top of the screen. • This is similar to the Citation tool on the InfoTrac databases.

  22. Cite This • Cite This the ProQuest citation tool allows you to retrieve a citation for your article which you can then cut and paste into your reference page.

  23. Topic Search • Topic Search allows you to search for articles on your topic as well as related topics. • Searches can be entered in one of two ways: • Suggest Topic • Look up topics A to Z

  24. Suggest Topic • Using Suggest Topic you enter your search terms and Proquest will suggest a list of topics which are related to your terms.

  25. Look Up Topics A to Z • With Look up Topics A to Z you enter your search terms and ProQuest generates a list of topics that are closest alphabetically to your search terms.

  26. Publication Search • Publication Search allows you to search for articles from a particular journal within the Proquest database.

  27. ProQuest Databases • Proquest has 27 different databases to choose from.

  28. eLibrary

  29. eLibrary is a wonderful database offering patrons access to a myriad of electronic resources including: Newspapers Magazines/Journals eBooks Maps Pictures Audio/Video files Transcripts eLibrary Resources

  30. eLibrary offers a variety of search options including: Keyword searches Advanced searches Topic Searches Reference searches eLibrary Search Options

  31. eLibrary allows users to refine their searches through a number of search options/criteria. Users can search via: Topic Area Emphasis Date Range of publication Title Reading Level Publication Author Advanced Search Options

  32. Topic Search allows users to search the eLibrary for articles based on a specific topic Users can enter subject terms, or Select a topic from the “Topic Tree” Topic Search

  33. Reference Search • Reference Search allows users 250 reference resources including: • Dictionaries • Thesauri • Encyclopedias • Almanacs • Atlases • And other materials

  34. eLibrary also allows users to browse it’s various resources by selecting one of the resource catagories: News Magazines Books Maps Pictures Audio/Video Transcripts Resources

  37. Bowker’s Books In Print • Bowker’s Books in Print provides bibliographic information to Librarians, Book Sellers, and Publishers

  38. Books in Print allows users to search for bibliographic information on books, audio books, and videos using an array of criteria including: Title Author Subject ISBN Search Options

  39. Patron’s Books In Print Patron’s Edition • Books In Print Patron’s Edition allows patrons to search for information on books, audio books, and videos, eliminating the need for technical library jargon.

  40. Patron’s Books in Print allows patrons to search or browse for bibliographic resources in a variety of user friendly formats including: Reader’s Advisory Fiction-Connection Non-Fiction-Connection Fiction Room Children’s Room Browse by subject or, search Search Options

  41. RCLweb • RCLweb is the online component of Resources for College Libraries a resource for bibliographic information on over 65,000 titles covering the spectrum of College level and research scholarly materials

  42. Users can search RCLweb using standard bibliographic search criteria, or browse by: RCL Subject LC Classification Title Author Award Name Award Category Publisher Series Title Browsing RCLweb

  43. EBSCO Host • EBSCO Host is a free access database provided to libraries. • EBSCO Host provides access to two databases: • Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts • Teacher Reference Center

  44. EBSCO Host allows users to conduct basic as well as more advanced searches for resources in the Library and Educational fields EBSCO Host Basic Search

  45. Search Results • This is a results page for a search of the EBSCO Host database for documents related to FRBR • The results are citations of article, books and other resources related to the subject
