  3. Roles and responsibilities • 2010 Flood and Water Management Act • Several bodies manage flood risk, including: • Environment Agency • Lead Local Flood Authorities • Local Authorities • Sewerage Undertakers • Landowners • Partnership working

  4. Environment Agency • National overview of all flood risk sources • Permissive powers to carry out work • Main river flooding • Tidal flooding • Regulates reservoir safety • Incident response role

  5. Lead Local Flood Authority -Hampshire County Council • Local flooding sources: • Surface water • Ordinary watercourses • Groundwater • Investigate flood incidents • Emergency planning role • Hampshire County Council also have role as a Highways Authority

  6. Local Authority - New Forest District Council • Coastal Erosion Risk Management Authority • Local Planning Authority • Former surface water management role

  7. Southern Water • Flooding from sewers (foul and surface water) • Water supply • Manage risk to their own infrastructure

Work since 2013/14 floods • Calmore • EA work carried out • Regraded and widened channel to improve capacity • Jetted culverts to remove silt and gravel • Installed silt traps to remove sediment before culverts • Helped community set up Flood Action Group • Installed webcam that community have access to

  12. Work since 2013/14 floods • Maintenance work in Bartley • Asset inspections • New Hampshire County Council highways drain • Environment Agency have carried out blockage and vegetation clearance

  13. Work since 2013/14 floods • Cadnam and Copythorne • Asset inspections • Speaking to Highways Agency about their structure downstream of motorway • Vegetation cut once a year at Pollards Moor, last cut in November 2015

  15. EA mapping and modelling • EA flood mapping updated continuously • EA hold detailed modelling for main rivers in the New Forest, and less detailed modelling on smaller watercourses • We provide this information to the public via our website and also to insurers

  16. Insurance – Flood Re • New insurance scheme backed by the Government and Association of British Insurers • Helps those in flood risk areas to find affordable insurance through existing providers • Properties built before 2009 eligible
