  4. Characters Favorite Character • Clay- All around nice guy who wants to figure out why Hannah took her life. He had a crush on Hannah Least Favorite Characters • The people leading up to Hannah’s death ----IN OTHER WORDS---- The other twelve reasons why

  5. Plot Exposition Clay just found a package full of seven tapes that was sent by a girl who commit suicide. These tapes are the thirteen reasons why she commit suicide.

  6. Plot Rising Action While Clay listens to theses tapes, you are asking the same questions he is, what did you do to contribute to Hannah’s death and how the other people got on the list as well.

  7. Plot Climax You find out the real reason Clay is on Hannah’s List

  8. Falling Action Falling Action Clay starts to realizes all the warning signs that he should have seen in Hannah but still is upset she took her life.

  9. Plot Resolution Clay passes on the tapes to the next reason why and reaches out to a girl who he thinks is at risk of committing suicide.

  13. Book Rating 10 This book keeps you reading until the last page, each pages gets you one step closer to Clay’s reasons but even after you figure that out you are hooked until the end. Unique plot and type of book

There were no early warning signs but he was hospitalized for depression a week prior • One of nine Murder-Suicide in Utah for 2009 • Four victims alone in December (Bergreen)

  23. Depression • Teens are vulnerable to depression. • Hormones and sleep cycles can affect emotions of teens. • Over 60 percent of people who commit suicide suffer from depression (Peacock, Teens and Depression)

  24. Substance Abuse • Teens with alcohol and drug problems are at risk for suicidal thinking and behavior • Teens often sometimes turn to these for an escape • 30 t0 50 suicide attempts occur under the influence of alcohol or drugs (Peacock, The Facts about Teen Suicide)

Warning Signs 4 out of 5 suicide attempts have clear warning signs • Disinterest in favorite activities • Substance abuse • Withdrawing from family and friends • Changes in eating habits • Begins to neglect personal appearance • Declining grades in school • Risk taking behaviors (Peacock, How Can I Help My Friend?)

  26. Indications of a suicide plan • I’m thinking of committing suicide • I want to kill myself • I wish I could die • If they give away favorite belongings These are all serious calls for help!!

  27. Preventions • SUPPORT • Let them know that you support and love them • Lawmakers making it harder for teens to get guns

  28. Education • School Programs • American Association of Suicidology • Speak at schools and publish information • Learning about • warning signs • Risk Factors • Communication

  29. If it is you…. Suffering from depression and are having suicidal thoughts reach out to someone • Tell someone you trust what’s going on with you • Be around people who are caring and positive • Ask someone to help you figure out what to do a problem you are facing • Figure out what is getting you down and depressed and have a support group when can reach out to when you can’t cop
