Enhancing Information Literacy for 5th Graders: Surfing Safely and Creatively

This unit is designed for 20 fifth graders, aiming to enhance their information literacy skills. Students will learn how to effectively use a pathfinder and the internet, ensuring safety and efficiency in their research. They will explore how to create their own Bubblr as a creative tool for expressing their findings. This collaborative effort between teachers and librarians will foster responsible use of technology and promote positive attitudes towards lifelong learning. Students will gain the ability to critically evaluate and use information accurately.

  2. Target Audience • The target audience will consist of 20 5th graders.

Content Area StandardsFranklin Northeast Supervisory Union: Technology Power Standards & Indicators · Power Standard #2: Social, Ethical and Human Issues *Students practice responsible use of technology systems and information. *Students develop positive attitudes toward technology uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity. Power Standard #3: Productivity Tools *Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.

What Students will KNOW and be able TO DO: • Students will know how to effectively use a pathfinder. • Students will know how to safely and effectively surf the Internet after using the “Surfing The Net” pathfinder. • Students will be able to research in which state they would choose to live. • Students will be able to create their own Bubblr.
